The Lockerbie Old School Children’s Book Club is a welcoming, small-group programme designed to help children develop a love of reading while building confidence and creativity.
These sessions are funded by Annandale and Nithsdale Community Benefit Company, administered by Foundation Scotland.
Aimed at children aged: age 4- 8 years.
Each week, up to six children and their parent or carer will meet at Lockerbie Town Hall for an engaging session that includes:
A new book for each child to keep (free of charge)
A guided reading activity that encourages peer support and confidence in reading aloud
A linked craft activity to bring the story to life
A take-home pack with fun, literacy-based activities families can do together.
Our sessions are friendly, informal and designed to support children who may benefit from a little extra help or encouragement with reading.
Intended Outcomes:
Improved literacy, comprehension, and expressive skills
Increased confidence and enjoyment in reading
Stronger relationships between children and parents/carers through shared learning
Opportunities for creative expression and social connection
